What Is A Monument?

At a glance, the Monument resembles just another one of the stone obelisks in the Outdoors. You’ll see them scattered around, and most of them are just decoration.

The difference between a regular obelisk and a Monument, is that when you’re not looking at it, a Monument raises itself up on four spidery legs and starts creeping up behind you. If it catches you it will grab you with one of its legs, pull you underneath, then drop down on top of you. Ouch.

How To Survive An Encounter

If you want to survive the Monument, the firest thing you need to do is learn the signs of one so you can identify if one of these entities is active in the area. The big warning signs are:

• Obelisks in unexpected places. (Like on the path.) Or Obelisks that seem to be in a different place than when you last saw them. Trying to keep a vague mental note of obelisks in the area and where they are, in case they move.
• A scuttling sound behind you. This means a Monument is sneaking up behind you to attack. Turn around as quickly as you can!

Once you have identified a Monument in your vicinity, you need to keep it in view as much as possible. It will not move while a player is looking at it. If you have more than one player you can use teamwork to make sure someone is always watching a Monument while others can take care of tasks like operating switches or opening crates.
