Riot Games adds VALORANT and League of Legends in-game fundraisers for LA wildfire relief

Game publisher Riot Games has announced it will launch in-game fundraisers on League of Legends and VALORANT to support those affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.

The initiative is set to start on January 22nd across various Riot Games regions, with proceeds going to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. This will then be used to fund organisations aiding natural disaster recovery in Southern California and around the world.

From January 22nd to January 30th, VALORANT will turn its EX.O Collection into a ‘Give Back Bundle’, with proceeds from weapon skins and accessories going to the fundraiser.

League of Legends, on the other hand, will unvault its limited-edition skin Firefighter Tristana, from January 23rd, 12 pm PT (8pm GMT) to February 5th, 11:59 am PT (8pm GMT).

The VALORANT EX.O skin line is the latest one released by the game developer. Meanwhile, Firefighter Tristana is a special skin released in 2010 that was no longer purchasable due to its legacy status.

According to a blog post by Riot Games, the company has launched a double-donation campaign for Rioters, tripling their charitable contributions to aiding organisations such as California Fire Foundation, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, International Medical Corps, American Red Cross, and World Central Kitchen. Moreover, the company has made direct donations.

With headquarters based in Los Angeles, Riot Games announced that it closed its offices to all but ‘critical functions’ last week, with several employees losing their homes to the wildfires.

“This crisis has deeply affected our teams, with some Rioters losing their homes and many others still evacuated,” the company noted.

“In moments like this, our priority is their health and safety. We’ve taken steps to support Rioters navigating this difficult time by providing temporary housing, emergency stipends, and access to advisory services. We’re committed to evolving this support as their needs become clearer.”
