Football governing body FIFA and game developer Mythical Games have unveiled FIFA Rivals, a new mobile football game.

Launching on Mythical’s dedicated platform, FIFA Rivals will provide arcade gameplay in addition to allowing its players to build their own football club.

FIFA Rivals users will play matches against other players in PvP matches using their own created club. The game will be free to play and will offer in-game purchases alongside a marketplace where consumers can buy and sell their in-game players on the Mythos blockchain.

According to a release the launch of the game marks ‘the next phase of FIFA’s gaming and esports portfolio’ which continues to grow following the termination of the body’s long-standing partnership with Canadian game developer and publisher Electronic Arts (EA).

FIFA has continued to expand its esports portfolio throughout the year. In June, it launched the Football Manager FIFAe World Cup while October saw it join forces with Japanese game developer KONAMI with the goal of increasing the presence of esports within the football industry.

Mythical Games is no stranger to creating games using blockchain technology. In November 2024, the developer collaborated with the National Football League (NFL) to launch arcade sports title NFL Rivals.

John Linde, CEO and Founder of Mythical Games, spoke on the deal: “We are excited to partner with FIFA and leverage our expertise to create an unparalleled football gaming experience.

“The combination of officially licensed football stars, prestigious clubs from around the world, and globally competitive esports gameplay will take sports gameplay to a new level. Through this long-term partnership with FIFA, there are major plans to integrate into the FIFA esports platform to give players in every country the ability to become a participant or fan.”
