European esports organisation G2 Esports and Chinese esports team Invictus Gaming (iG) have mutually ended their partnership for its co-branded Dota 2 team.

At the end of 2023, G2 announced the collaboration with iG, marking the organisation’s entrance into a new continent and game title.

Throughout its short-run tenure, the team achieved mixed results. G2.iG only finished in the top 16 at The International 2024 and in the bottom two at the Riyadh Masters 2024, which was part of the Esports World Cup and featured a $5m prize pool (~£3.81m). The team’s best results this season were a fourth-place finish at PGL Wallachia Season 1 and a top-six finish at the ESL ONE Birmingham.

The goal of the team at the time was for G2 and iG to form a joint venture that strengthened the brands’ presence.

G2 Esports, in a post on X, stated: “Our G2 x iG partnership has come to an end, and we have mutually agreed to part ways. We want to thank iG for helping us expand our presence in China and launch our first team in the region.

“We also want to thank our G2 x iG DOTA 2 players for representing G2 on the world stage. We’re still committed to building our fanbase in China. We’ll continue to support our local fans and we hope to be back with more in the future, watch this space.”

While G2 doesn’t have an esports lineup in China, the organisation still counts an impressive global presence with various squads outside of the European continent, notably in North America. This includes a VALORANT team in VCT Americas and a Call of Duty League team (Minnesota Røkkr).

Invictus Gaming, on the other hand, is mainly known for being the first Chinese esports team to ever win a League of Legends World Championship. Aside from League of Legends and Dota 2, it also operates in Counter-Strike, PUBG, Starcraft 2 and Hearthstone.
