Fantasy esports platform PlayerX has partnered with Drew Brees, a former NFL player and TV personality known for his long and prolific NFL career.

The partnership will see Brees invest in PlayerX and become the brand’s ambassador across commercial and promotional assets, effectively making Brees the face of the brand in the years to come.

Drew Brees is widely regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, having spent 20 seasons in the NFL. Brees was part of the New Orleans Saints squad that won the Super Bowl in 2010 and since his retirement worked as a broadcast personality and coach. The deal with PlayerX is the first big investment into esports for the 45-year-old former player.

Brees and PlayerX, a fantasy esports platform owned by World Champion Fantasy, have announced that the former football player will be a part of all of its promotions, consumer-facing product roll-outs and B2B interactions.

Brees emphasised the importance of PlayerX being a family-friendly product that does not include gambling and is open to a younger demographic. He said that he has “never seen a more innovative vision for what fan interactivity with sports and media can be.”

PlayerX offers in-game statistics and fantasy features and is a global partner of esports data company GRID Esports. PlayerX and GRID have exclusive data and video rights agreements, meaning that GRID’s data for esports tournaments can be used by PlayerX to enhance the user experience.

WCF Founder and CEO Mike Vela said: “We couldn’t be happier to have Drew on board to help us launch PlayerX to the next level. In looking for the right partner who embodies the characteristics of family values, kid-friendly interaction, fun, and superior skill that PlayerX stands for, we couldn’t think of a better teammate than Drew to help guide us into the future.”
