The acquisition aims to support the company’s mission of creating a globally available matchmaking service. Esportal is a web-based competitive arena for many popular esports titles. Founded in 2014, the service offers matchmaking, competitive opportunities and performance tracking. In 2017, Esportal Group acquired gaming centre chain Inferno Online. This year, the company partnered with SaaS platform Brand Metrics to improve the performance evaluation of its advertising campaigns. Since 2002, PGL has been a notable tournament organiser within the global esports landscape. Its event portfolio includes Dota 2’s largest global competition, The International, as well as hosting CS Majors. PGL did not acquire the Esportal company, but rather specific assets that contribute to the organisation’s esports matchmaking ambitions. Within three to four months, PGL plans to migrate, reorganise and potentially rebrand the Esportal platform before its relaunch. In a press release, the company shared: “We are excited about this platform’s future and its positive impact on the esports community. Stay tuned for updates as we work to bring you an enhanced, world-class matchmaking experience.” 2024 has been an eventful year for PGL. The company hosted the first Major dedicated to CS:GO’s successor CS2, the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. The event peaked at 1.85m viewers, making it the third-most popular event in CS history. Moreover, PGL secured numerous partnerships with companies such as Chinese game publisher and tournament operator Perfect World, esports betting service provider Odin.gg and data analytics company Shikenso Analytics.
