Each game in the series has its own story arc and characters, and this installment—set between Trails of Cold Steel II and Trails of Cold Steel III—sees you playing as North Ambrian heroine Lavi as she attempts to infiltrate the Erebonian Empire.

Gameplay-wise, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel – Northern War is a tactical RPG consisting of turn-based battles between various different types of units.

Your goal is to arrange your heroes across three rows depending on their skills and attributes. There are buffs, S-crafts, and partner effects to consider as you react in real time to events on the battlefield.

This combat plays out in a number of modes, including Forest of Trials, Infinity Tower, and the multiplayer Arena.
