20 May eSport Team Rival rebrands under Ghost Gaming acquisition May 20, 2020 Posted by GataGames Leave a comment North American esports organisation Team Rival announced that its SMITE team roster and SMITE Pro League franchise slot have been acquired by California-based organisation Ghost Gaming. The team will continue competing in the 2020 SMITE Pro League season under the Ghost Gaming brand, assuring fans that no other changes have taken place in the player roster or staff. In April, the organisation announced that it had been acquired by “strategic investors with expertise in esports, traditional sports, media and entertainment.” Information surrounding the acquisition of Ghost Gaming, including financial terms and the new owners, has not been disclosed at the time of writing. Similarly, little has been disclosed about the deal between Ghost Gaming and Team Rival. RELATED: NiP and SK Gaming win among exciting announcements at Hi-Rez Expo 2019 Rival Gaming made its announcement on May 18th via Twitter, stating that the alignment with Ghost Gaming will allow it to “bring more people on board, and provide resources for current players and staff.” The statement implies that in addition to a new name and logo, Ghost Gaming is providing considerable funding to the team formally known as Team Rival. Esports Insider says: Ghost Gaming’s acquisition (and financial support) might be a shot in the arm for Team Rival’s fans and roster, who have expressed frustration over making it to the World Championships three years in a row, but failing to take home the title.
