The event will have a total prize purse of $200,000 (£160,126) and doesn’t have a set launch date at the time of writing. Whalen Rozelle, Director of Global Esports at Riot Games, spoke on the event in a release: “With the Teamfight Tactics: Galaxies Championship, we want to reward all of the players who dedicate their time to mastering Teamfight Tactics and provide an additional goal that exists beyond reaching the top of the ladder. To support this, we are creating a clear path to the Championship that will be globally accessible through both the in-game ladder and online tournaments.” RELATED: First Teamfight Tactics tournament to be hosted by Twitch A merit-based system will be implemented for the tournament series and regional finals that allows “high-skill players to qualify for major competitions.” Each region involved in the event will have its own specific amount of qualification spots based on where the game is most popular and which has the highest level of players. Riot Games has held three invitationals for Teamfight Tactics since its launch in 2019, including the Elements Invitational, the 2019 League of Legends All-Star Event, and the recent Galaxies Showcase. The developer has also unveiled community guidelines for third-party tournament organisers. Esports Insider says: This is a solid move by Riot Games, further building up a title that has been successful in its own right. We’re intrigued to see this system in play so we can fully witness it in action and compare to others that are being utilised across the industry.
