Bundesliga taps Battlefy for VBL International Series


Online tournament platform Battlefy has partnered with German football league Bundesliga for the VBL International Series.

The competition targets players in Asia and the Americas, with Battlefy managing and maintaining the international competition through its platform.

Andreas Heyden, Executive Vice President, Digital Innovations at the German Football League, commented on the competition: “Combining the online and offline world of football, the VBL International Series merges the passions of a new generation of gamers and Bundesliga fans around the world. This competition is yet another milestone in the Bundesliga’s success story of establishing a leading global esports competition, an asset that further confirms the Bundesliga’s reputation as football’s innovation leader.”

The FIFA tournament kicks off in March 2020, with regional qualifiers across 19 countries. The Asian qualifiers will see players from Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Brunei, the Philippines, Cambodia, Singapore, East Timor, and Vietnam compete to represent their continent.

They will meet competitors from Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, the USA, and Canada in the VBL International Series Finals which will be held in Germany.

Yohan Sengamalay, General Manager of Business for Battlefy, also commented on the partnership: “Battlefy is thrilled to power the VBL International Series with the Bundesliga. Esports Insider says: While these partnerships are of course developed over time, sealing the deal on this one is a big win for Battlefy’s new leadership team. The Bundesliga’s decision to target the American and Asian markets is a strong indicator of its intention to continue brand building for the league and its clubs.
