22 Nov eSport CONMEBOL and EA join forces for eLibertadores November 22, 2019 Posted by GataGames Leave a comment EA Sports has added a version of South American tournament Copa Libertadores de América to its FIFA 20 Global Series in the form of eLibertadores. The addition of the tournament will enable FIFA players based in South America to take part in the FIFA Ultimate Team tournament. Image credit: EA Sports RELATED: adidas reveals official match ball for FIFA 20 Global Series Brent Koning, FIFA Competitive Gaming Commissioner at EA discussed the competition in a release: “The addition of the prestigious CONMEBOL Libertadores to our FIFA 20 Global Series ecosystem strengthens our connection to the global fandom of football and will accelerate the growth of esports in new parts of the world. We aim to offer the most inclusive esports competition in the world and are eager to welcome South American-based players and aspiring superstars to join the tens of millions already competing in FIFA.” In addition to the formation of eLibertadores for the esports circuit, players can now use South American football clubs River Plate, Boca Juniors, Flamengo, and Corinthians throughout FIFA 20 for the very first time. RELATED: MFA and EA partner for Malta BOV ePremier League Juan Emilio Roa, Commercial Director of CONMEBOL added: “This alliance with EA, one of the largest video game companies, is a major step forward for the worldwide dissemination and image of South American football. Thanks to this agreement, our tournaments, clubs and players will have greater reach and recognition among the football fans who will have a whole new way to follow their heroes.” The finals of eLibertadores will see the top eight players from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One compete on March 7-8th 2020 for a total of $100,000 (£77,363). Esports Insider says: It’s no secret that South America has a passionate esports community and it is great to see another publisher expand its offering into the region.
