What’s on this week? Ft PUBG Nations Cup

‘What’s on this week?’ is ESI’s weekly feature letting you know just what’s going on in the wonderful world of esports in the next seven days. Each week, ESI picks a selection of events and provides a brief overview of what’s going down, where it’s taking place, and how you can watch it.

We start the week off with some international PUBG action as 16 nations battle it out. Then, we check in with the Overwatch League as things start to take shape at the top. Lastly, it’s time for the LCS playoffs with just six teams left as they battle for the LCS crown and a spot at Worlds.

PUBG Nations Cup 2019

The PUBG Nations Cup gets underway this weekend in Seoul, South Korea. The cup is the first of its kind in PUBG esports, acting as the All-Star event for 2019. 16 national teams will be represented at the event with rosters being chosen by the players to represent their nation. The participating nations are as follows: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, Germany, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam, and Chinese Taipei.

Throughout the three-day event, 15 matches will be played across Miramar and Erangel as teams fight for a share of the $500,000 (£410,000) prize pool. All matches will be squads with five matches being played each day.

Overwatch League Stage 4 – Week 3

As we move into Week 3 of Overwatch League’s fourth stage, we’ve already seen some changes to the leaderboards since the 2-2-2 composition restrictions came into play. With teams having played between two to four games each, Atlanta Reign and Washington Justice are sitting atop of the standings with a 100% record over 3 games. The one slight shock is that New York Excelsior sits in 14th place after picking up just one victory in its first three matches.

Vancouver Titans, New York Excelsior, and San Francisco Shock are still regarded the teams to beat, alongside Shanghai Dragons and Season 1 champions London Spitfire.

LCS 2019 Summer Playoffs Quarterfinals

This week, we head to America for our League of Legends action as we check in on the LCS. It’s been a good year for the LCS in 2019, with Team Liquid having a monster showing at MSI – taken down World Champions Invictus Gaming 3-1 – before falling to LEC representative G2 Esports in the finals.

With regular play out the way, we look to the playoffs this week as the LCS welcomes its quarterfinals matches between Counter Logic Gaming & OpTic Gaming and Team SoloMid & Clutch Gaming. Both series will be played in a best-of-five format with the winners of both series heading into a semifinals match-up against either Team Liquid or Cloud9.
