UGC to take Halo Classic to Atlantic City

Tournament organiser Ultimate Gaming Championship (UGC) is bringing back its Halo Classic series and taking it to Atlantic City.

The tournament, which is being hosted in partnership with Halo Championship Series (HCS), will be played on Halo 3 and have a $50,000 (£39,947.25) prize pool.

Taking place at Bally’s Atlantic Hotel & Casino on September 6-8th, the event will have an open bracket that both professional and amateur teams must compete in.

Matt Jackson, CEO & Founder of UGC discussed the event in a release: “We always strive to raise the bar of our events, delivering an exceptional experience for the community and our partners alike. The inaugural Halo Classic in St. Louis brought record-breaking attendance to the Midwest and offered an opportunity for our company to showcase the best of our innovative and creative approaches to tournament creation. Thanks to great partners, we’re now able to mirror that same orientation in the North East by bringing Halo Classic to Atlantic City.”

UGC partnered with HCS in January to launch its first Halo Classic in St. Louis, acting as the first result of HCS’ Grassroots program. Over 700,000 unique viewers tuned in to the competition on Twitch.

Despite not having its own official esports circuit at this time, Halo 3 has another prominent LAN event on the way. FACEIT is set to host the FACEIT Ignite: Halo European Open in Twickenham Stadium, London on August 17-18th.

Esports Insider says: It’s great to see Halo – a beloved series of games with a deep history in esports – receive some major events despite the lack of an official circuit. UGC pulled off something surprising and impressive with its first Halo Classic so we’re expecting a solid event in Atlantic City.
